Foxy Beach or Boulders Beach?
Foxy Beach is where most of the colony lives – wooden boardwalks and viewing platforms let you watch hundreds of African penguins up close. At Boulders Beach itself you can swim in calm, sheltered water between giant granite boulders, often with penguins waddling past.
Best time to visit
- Early morning: penguins are most active and it’s much quieter.
- February – August: breeding season – look out for fluffy grey chicks.
- Avoid midday on summer weekends, when it gets busy.
Good to know
- Please don’t touch or feed the penguins – African penguins are an endangered species.
- Parking is available at both entrances.
- Combine your visit with Simon’s Town’s historic main road and a drive on to Cape Point.
